Artist Statement

Since I was a child, I have always had an affinity towards expressive exploration. I have been many things in my life. I am a daughter of two earthly angels. A sister and a friend. I am a lover of words and poetry. A lover of people. I am an eternal wanderer and explorer. A spiritual seeker. I am a servant of the earth, a poet of voice and dance. A humanitarian of sorts. And while I did not truly explore the capacities of paint and canvas until college, I have always lived artistically.

It was in the airy nooks of our backyard trees that I first found solace, breathed in the colorful possibilities of life. Through the whims and whirls of daydreams, floating, soaring, flying through the bounds of my imagination, I came to understand life as a blank canvas among itself. I realized and still remain fascinated by the moldability of our lives. That we stand not only as decision makers, but as the creators of our own realities. The scope is endless. The possibilities are unfathomable. As with life, so with art as well. How inspiring! How beautiful!

In my personal experience, art has served an invaluably boundless realm of immaterial purpose. It has not only offered me a safe place for raw and unscathed emotional expression but in turn, has allowed me to fully experience the joy, peace and liberation of resisting the burden of internalization. It has provided me with the readily available means to explore and discover the world, to seek personal truths and to visually express that felt which is often verbally inexpressible. To understand beauty as it was intended and purposed. Beauty in the mundane and forgotten. Beauty in the complex nature and interplay of human emotions. Beauty in all thoughts and affect, all life. In everything. In triumph, in joy and elation. Even the dark and the wounded.

Equally significant as its process, is the ultimate product. Art allows us to be visually stimulated, to change the energy of a given environment, to have a physical representation of the inner workings of the soul. Most importantly, art allows us to connect, interact and share with one another. It allows us an outlet to gather and celebrate, to mourn and heal together, to recognize and rejoice in our shared human frailties and divinity.

My greatest hope is not to create art for the sake of marketability or show, but to practice and perfect the art of soulful expression, emotional immediacy, authenticity and inner listening. To tap into, as best I can, the inner workings of that very moment in time and space. To express true expression. Unveiled and untouched. The pure and infinite truth.
